Swim Meet 101 - How it Works

Swim meets are an exciting part of the HGC Sharks season! Here’s what you need to know to help your swimmer have a smooth and successful meet night:

✅ Arrival & Check-In: Meets start at 6:00 PM, but swimmers must arrive by 4:30 PM to check in, warm up, and get ready. If you’re running late, text the coaches ASAP so we can adjust relays if needed.

✅ Gear Up: Swimmers should wear their team suit, cap, and goggles. Bring extras in case of emergencies. Write event numbers on your swimmer’s arm (coaches will help), but please no writing on backs.

✅ Meet Structure: Meets start with 8 & under relays and progress through all age groups. Events continue until approximately 9:00 PM—be prepared for a full evening!

✅ Stay Hydrated & Fueled: Bring water bottles and snacks. Most pools sell concessions if you need additional food.

✅ Support the Team: Wear team gear to show your Shark spirit and sign up to volunteer—meets can’t happen without parent help!

✅ Have Fun! Cheer on your swimmer and teammates, encourage great sportsmanship, and enjoy the summer swim experience! Go Sharks!

The Greater Richmond Aquatic League defines the age groups for all meets (listed below). Your child will be placed in the correct group by age.
